Here's one solution if you have a lot of unwanted critters, best to put in the garage or barn.

You set it up with a 5 gallon bucket. You have the choice whether to drown them or catch-and-release (miles away! And you must check the trap daily.)
The Victor Electronic trap worked great for me... within a few days, for one mouse. The mouse goes inside a tunnel to get the peanut butter, steps on a metal plate and is electrocuted (it's battery operated, safe and very hard to reach for pets). (Yes, it kills, but if you release a live mouse outside your house, you can bet it's coming back inside.) This is safe, easy to use, and won't poison the neighborhood cats or raptors.
